Dual Language Immersion Program

What is Dual Language Immersion?

Our Dual Language Immersion Program allows students to learn Spanish and English in a fun, engaging way! Students spend half their school day learning in English and the other half in Spanish, with two caring and highly qualified teachers guiding them. Young children are especially ready to learn a second language, and this program makes the most of this critical time in their development.

What are the Benefits?

  • Second language skills: Students become confident Spanish speakers, readers, and writers.
  • Stronger thinking skills: Immersion students often show better memory, focus, and problem-solving skills. They also gain a deeper understanding of their first language!
  • Cultural awareness: Children develop a greater appreciation for different cultures and people.

What to Expect
In this program, your child will:

  • spend half the day learning subjects like reading, writing, math, science, and social studies in English;
  • spend the other half learning subjects in Spanish, where the teacher speaks only Spanish and uses fun activities like songs, pictures, games, and storytelling to help children understand and participate; and
  • quickly develop the ability to understand and speak Spanish in class.

Who Can Join?
The program is open to all students entering first grade! We welcome children of all backgrounds and language abilities. However, families concerned about their child’s speech or learning development should talk with their kindergarten teacher or staff before applying.

If your child speaks English as a second language, this program can provide extra support as they continue developing their English and Spanish skills!

Enrollment for the following school year begins in March. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so check our school website for details.

Parent Commitment
Parents play an essential role! To help your child succeed, we ask families to do the following:

  • Read with your child in English for 20–30 minutes daily.
  • Encourage using Spanish outside of school.
  • Support the program in the community and volunteer when possible.
  • Celebrate your child’s hard work and progress.
